ECU tuning changes the software that decides how much fuel and boost your engine gets. Done properly it means more torque where you tow, smoother throttle and often better economy. Done badly it shortens the life of an engine. Trent has 17 years in the mechanical trade and tuning is his specialty, and he will tell you whether your vehicle is worth doing before you pay.

A tune on a tired engine is money wasted.

Which is why every remap here starts with a health check. Boost leaks, tired injectors and clogged filters get fixed first, or the tune waits. It is slower and it is right.

What do people ask about ECU tuning?

How much does an ECU remap cost in NZ?

It depends on the vehicle and what is being done. ECU tuning here starts from $600 plus GST, and Trent tells you the price for your vehicle before any work starts.

Is ECU tuning legal in New Zealand?

Generally yes for road use, provided the vehicle stays safe and its emissions equipment stays fitted and working. A WOF inspection does not test engine software. We do not remove or defeat emissions systems, and we will say so if that is what you are asking for.

Will a tune void my warranty?

It can. Most manufacturers treat software changes as a warranty matter if they find them. If your vehicle is still under a new vehicle warranty we will talk that through before anything is done. For most people the honest answer is to wait until the factory warranty has run out, or to weigh the towing and economy gains against the risk on a vehicle that is nearly there. We would rather lose the job than have you lose a warranty claim.

Will I actually get better fuel economy?

Often yes on diesel utes and 4WDs, because the engine makes its torque lower and you use less throttle, especially towing. It depends on how you drive. We give you the before and after data rather than a promise.

Can you tune my vehicle if it has a fault?

Not until the fault is fixed. A tune on top of a boost leak or a tired injector makes the problem worse. We do a health check first, and if the vehicle needs work we quote that separately.

Do you tune boats, tractors or machinery?

Ask. Some engines we can, some need a specialist. Ring Trent and describe what you have.
