What do people ask about diagnostics?

Why is my check engine light on?

The light means the engine computer has logged a fault. It can be as small as a loose fuel cap or as serious as a misfire. It is not safe to guess, so we read the code, look at the live data and test the part before telling you what it is. Flashing usually means stop and ring.

Can you just clear the light for me?

We can, and it will come back if the fault is still there. Clearing a code without fixing the cause can also hide a problem that damages something expensive. We would rather tell you what it is and let you decide.

Do you charge for diagnostics?

Yes, there is a diagnostic fee because finding the fault is the skilled part. If you go ahead with the repair here we tell you up front how that fee is treated.

Can you diagnose European and Japanese imports?

Ring and tell us the make, model and year. Most common makes can be scanned. If a job needs a dealer tool we will say so rather than guess.
